The Fir Tree Edge

The Fir Tree Edge

The Lazu Hill, which dominates the town from the north, has a picturesque place, visible from great distances and also a relaxing place for the locals. It is a selvage planted with pine trees back in the nineteenth century, by the Bibescu-Brâncoveanu family. The place is photogenic in any season and offers wide views both to the south, with the entire city and north to the upper basin of Târsa.    The easiest way to reach the pine trees is by Lazului street – turning left at the first curve of Capu Câmpului coils (or right at the last curve, if you come from Gura Beliei). At the end of the street you will reach the great clearing of Lazu, then through the beech forest you ascend to the large unpaved road (DJ 206) that crosses the forest. Following this road to the left, and then to the right at the top, you will soon get to the Fir Tree Edge. You can either return by Plaiului street, or continue northward on DJ 206, through the forest up to Tălii street which leads you downhill to Gura Beliei. Another alternative is this track: Lazu hill circuit route –...
Princess’ Beech

Princess’ Beech

Deep in the Cheia Proviţei forest, in a clearing on the left bank of the Târsa stream, we find a secular beech with a bushy crown. Known by locals as “Copacu ‘ăl Mare” or “Princess’ Beech“, it is said that it guarded the favorite place of rest of Princess Zoe Bibescu-Brâncoveanu, owner of Breaza estate a century and a half ago, or that, earlier, under its branches would have stopped the famous outlaw Iancu Jianu, escaped from the prison of Telega. A scenic hiking trail in circuit gets here. It is currently under marking (red triangle), starts in the town and passes through the valley of Târsa and the Lazu forest –...
Brâncoveanu Park

Brâncoveanu Park

Around the mansion, a fashionable park in English style was created, which astonished both the inhabitants and many travellers. Today the century-old trees make a real dendrological park with a great landscape view – a pride of the town.

General Ion Manolescu Building

General Ion Manolescu Building

Breaza’s emblematic figure is General Ion Manolescu (1869-1946), the son of a peasant turned into a symbol of the inter-war generation, a man this town can boast anywhere in the world. Soul of the moral rebirth of the village and founder of the National House concept (cultural center later), GLIM was really a man of sustainable facts animated by noble ideas. He’s not just Breaza’s hero, but whole nation’s, through the material and spiritual heritage he left behind. Among the places linked to the General’s memory, Breaza still preseves his storied building where he opened, in 1920, the Housewife’s...
